When Did Everything Turn Weird?
Theres a saying “Crossing the Rubicon”. The Rubicon is a shallow river in northeastern Italy . In January 49BC Julius Caesar and his army crossed the Rubicon from Gaul into Rome, historically this was the point for him and the army he had amassed where there was no turning back, the point of no return.
I feel in every respect that we have crossed our metaphorical Rubicon. We are moving forwards into yet another stage of advancement and because of that everything turned weird. Yesterday as I thought about this I tried hard to pinpoint exactly when this occurred. It occurred between 2018 and 2020, prior to Covid. That might just be my perception but in 2018 I really noticed a conscious change of life, a new rhythm occurred.
This moment in history has since become a metaphor for making an irreversible decision, a step that changes the course of events forever. In our own lives, there are times when we, too, cross a figurative Rubicon—whether in our personal journeys, community choices, or the world at large, these moments signal a shift from which there is no going back. We have not taken one step but many steps towards these changes and with every step we are establishing a greater awareness of life and how as a collective we are functioning.
I feel suspended at times, as I said to a friend recently ‘Nothing seems to be happening but then everything seems to be happening’ This was a reminder to me that despite the energy of the now, there is a great deal occurring that we are not conscious of. We may be aware that this is occurring, but we don’t feel it all the time. I think that’s changing, I believe that we are feeling it consciously more and because of this our awareness of ourselves and roles we play in all this is more evident.
It is fascinating to observe how, once this threshold was crossed, our perceptions and experiences began to shift in unexpected ways. The familiar patterns we relied on started to dissolve, making room for uncertainty but also for growth and new possibilities. This collective transformation, though unsettling at times, has prompted us to adapt, reconsider our priorities, and embrace unfamiliar paths with openness and curiosity.
As we navigate these uncharted waters, it becomes increasingly important to reflect on the choices we make and the impact they have on our collective future. The sense of unpredictability can be unsettling, yet it also opens the door to new possibilities and growth. By embracing this heightened awareness, we can better adapt to the evolving landscape and find meaning in the changes unfolding around us. Each day we really are deciding how to choose to experience ourselves and life. And so how do we navigate all this when everything is so weird?
I think having good daily productive and consistent routines help. It helps even more if we approach all of this from our soul awareness, and our interaction with like-minded people, and engaging in experiences that support the mind, body, spirit structure
Perhaps the answer lies in cultivating resilience and flexibility within us. By staying grounded in our values and remaining open to change, we can transform uncertainty into opportunities for growth. Practicing mindfulness and connecting with others can help anchor us as we move through these unfamiliar times, reminding us that we are not alone in this journey.
In these moments, it is also important to acknowledge the emotions that arise—whether it’s anxiety, hope, or excitement—allowing ourselves to process and learn from them. By giving ourselves permission to feel, we foster a deeper connection with our inner selves and build the emotional strength needed to face whatever lies ahead. Through this process, we not only survive change but can thrive within it, discovering new aspects of ourselves and the world.
And emotions will arise, a lot…..perhaps more so than in past times. There is a vulnerability in life now as we navigate through our responses to how life is presently unfolding. It’s important that we don’t allow these emotions to overwhelm us and rule our choices.
Amidst all this I feel daily we need to take some sort of action that encourages us to progress in these uncertain and unsettling times. We can acknowledge our feelings and use them as a guide for deeper understanding. By consciously choosing to respond rather than react, we empower ourselves to create a more balanced and intentional life experience. This approach not only helps us navigate current uncertainties but also prepares us to face future challenges with greater confidence and clarity.
Living an intentional day goes a long way to understanding the paths we are all caring out for ourselves. Being more intentional allows an awareness of the consequences before we make the commitment. This is not a time to plunge headlong into anything without taking into consideration the possible outcomes our of thoughts, words and deeds.
It is equally helpful to remember that progress, however small, is meaningful. Setting realistic goals and celebrating incremental achievements can provide a sense of purpose and motivation as we move forward.
Even in times when progress feels slow or invisible, every step taken is a testament to our perseverance and adaptability. It’s essential to honor these small victories, as they accumulate and eventually lead to significant transformation. By focusing on consistent, mindful actions, we reinforce our capacity to adapt and thrive, even amidst uncertainty and change.
I wish I could say when things will stop being weird. At times it seems like we have many more years of this as we unsettle ourselves to resettle. Every day there seems to be a new crisis of some sort being announced.
At the heart of this journey is the commitment to showing up for our self each day, regardless of how the world may shift around us. Consistency in our intentions and actions builds a foundation of trust and self-respect, which becomes invaluable during times of change. When we consciously nurture this sense of purpose, we are more equipped to navigate life's surprises and setbacks with grace and determination.
Blessings and love to you all
